Mike Pence the Vice President of USA had a 3-days trip to Middle East. He had meeting with some leaders such as AL-SISI OF Egypt and King Abdullah of Jordan. Thereafter he went to Knesset of Israel and made a lecture and emphasized on the moving of US Embassy to Jerusalem. 2 countries were excluded of this trip; Saudi Arabia and Palestine.
In my opinion the main aim of his nonsense trip was to improve the USA image in this region. Some analysts believed that he was failed. There are some factors demonstrate this trip only increase the fury among Palestinians either Muslims or Christians:
- Not welcome by leaders:
Relations between the Palestinian leadership and Washington have soured and Pence’s trip as expected, confirmed the enmity between both parties. At first Mahmud Abbas rejected meeting with him. Abbas denounced Trump’s actions as the “slap of the century” and Jerusalem will be a gate for peace only if it is Palestine’s capital, and it will be a gate of war, fear and the absence of security and stability – God forbid – if it is not,
In the meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan, he pointed out that America must ‘rebuild trust and confidence’ in the Middle East after Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
In a meeting with AL_SISI of Egypt, Pence stressed that there are disagreements between friends.
- Rejecting by both Muslims and Cristian leaders:
Senior Christian clerics in Egypt cancelled planned meeting with him. Also Christian leader in Jerusalem decided to boycott his visit in protest over the Trump administration’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Also the leaders in Al-Azhar the most prestigious school in Islamic World rejected meeting with pence.
- Bad speech in Knesset:
Pence gave a speech filled with religious symbolism before the Knesset on Tuesday, quoting from the bible multiple times, and explaining his support for Israel not just in political and security-oriented terms, but also in moral and religious ones. He also gave less than full support to a two-state solution.
In spite of this reality that he became the first US vice president to speak at the Israeli Knesset, but his speech was initially interrupted by a group of politicians with the Joint Arab List alliance.
They shouted “Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine” . Palestinian members of the Israeli parliament have been forcibly removed from the chamber after staging a protest at the start of US Vice President Mike Pence’s speech.
Ayman Odeh, the head of the Joint List, Israel’s Arab coalition party, called Pence “a dangerous man with a messianic vision that includes the destruction of the entire region. #Israel and #Trump: United against the world
